Acting:

Sid Nesbit

Sid (they/she) is a recent Dalhousie graduate, they graduated with an Honours in Acting and a Certificate in Dance and Movement. At Dalhousie they performed in the following Fountain School productions, Beyond Windows, The Dog in the Manger, People, Places and Things, and The Crucible. Before their acting debut, Sid regularly worked behind the scenes. They stage managed the KTS production of All My Sons and the DTS production of Late: A Cowboy Song. They are very excited to help showcase the fabulous work of their amazing directors. 

Chloë Nguyen-Drury

Chloë Nguyen-Drury is a writer-director studying Sociology and Cinema Studies at Dalhousie University. She's an editor at Genius, a music website, and worked as a reporter at Focus Media Arts, a grassroots journalism centre. She has also volunteered for a number of film festivals and design conventions in Halifax and Toronto. Chloë loves the idea of remix and reinterpretation across various mediums in relation to historical and social movements, particularly from feminist and cross-cultural lenses. She's thrilled to work with other young creatives on this project and is looking forward to future collaboration.

 

Agustine Scarpa

Agustine Scarpa is a Costume Studies student from Dalhousie's Fountain School of Performing Arts. Scarpa volunteered for many years at Hart House’s costume department in Toronto, In 2019, Agustine developed the idea for Breaking the Lens with fellow Costume Studies peer, Eleanor Gillies-Nielsen. This is an incredible opportunity to collaboratively explore femininity in film, and Agustine is grateful to continue developing her skills in directing, producing, and design through this project.

 

Eleanor Nielsen

Eleanor Nielsen student at Dalhousie University's Fountain School of Performing Arts. Eleanor has been involved in the theatre world from a very young age as a dancer. Her focus moved to costumes, with interest in designing and making costumes and wearable art. Since starting the Costume Studies program, she has been a costume assistant in Whale Song Theatre’s production of Assassins in the summer of 2019. Eleanor has costumed for various FSPA shows and has worked as a designer, producer, director for Breaking the Lens since 2019​.

Derek Birkbeck

Derek Birkbeck (He/They) is a burgeoning theatre artist from Toronto who has been living, working, and studying in Mi’kma’ki (Halifax) for the past 6 years. He is happy to lend his voice to a project that examines and critiques all too common misogynistic tropes in film (and particularly the horror genre). Having finished his final year studying acting at the Fountain School of Performing Arts this spring, Derek is also excited to be working with fellow alumni in The Women in Horror Collective.

 

Denisha Bracey

Denisha is a biracial artistic creator with dreams of building a career in the film industry. In 2019 she moved to Canada to study Film and Acting at Dalhousie University. She has since continued to pursue her cinema and acting education at Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo, Ontario. She has worked at numerous film festivals as a curator and in the marketing department. Last year she took on the project of creating an independent film festival with two peers. You can view some of her work and connect with her through her instagram page at @denixsha.

 

Gabe Christie

Gabriel Christie (he/him) is a theatre creator, actor, and performer. Originally from Maine, Gabriel resides in Halifax and is a graduate of the Dalhousie Acting Program. Gabriel will be performing in his own fringe show this year, one of his two dreams as an actor. Gabriel toured with a french-english theatre group at Mount Allison for two weeks, which he hopes will be the first of multiple touring shows.

Janna MacDonald

Coming from a theatre background, Janna has always had an interest in performing arts. Currently, Janna is studying Cinema and Media Studies at Dalhousie University, and hopes to use her studying to promote the world of Canadian Horror films. This project involves all things Janna loves in film which are; creativity, deep thought and interpretation of film.

Steph Simmons

Stephanie “Steph” Simons (Carol-Ann) is an actor and artist based in Halifax. They are excited to play in the “Breaking the Lens” part of the Women in Horror project. She is a recent graduate of Dalhousie’s Fountain School of Performing Arts, where Steph had played in performances like The Crucible and Dog in the Manger, but this is the first time they have appeared in an on-screen role. Steph is an outgoing and eager creative: exploring both performing and visual arts such as acting, singing, illustrating, and animating. Just to name a few!

Hermione Tamlin Davis 

Hermione Davis (She/They) is a theatrical and musical artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Having recently completed the acting program at Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts, Hermione is working on personal projects as she enters her professional career. Upcoming, you can catch them in Summerside, PEI for Feast! Dinner Theatres’ Christmas “Jingle and Mingle” show in Fall 2022. She can be found on Instagram under @heyitsherm and @hermionetamlin.

Emma Lamont

Emma (she/they) is a theatre student based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). She is in her third year of the Dalhousie Technical Theatre program, where she is planning on specialising in stage management. As a self-proclaimed horror fan, Emma is super excited to be a part of the Breaking the Lense team. A handful of her behind the scenes credits include Encounters at the Edge of the Woods; Oh What a Lovely War (Hart House Theatre), Dog in the Manger; People, Places, and Things; The Crucible (Fountain School of Performing Arts), Hamlet; Cinderelly (Shakespeare by the Sea).

Wesley Giffen

Wesley Giffen is an Alumni of the FSPA acting program and is so excited to be working on this show. His most recent performances include Mama Mia with the Guysborough players and The Crucible at FSPA. He believes that theatre is such an important part of our society and is overjoyed to see so many people coming out to see this years fringe shows. His favourite classic horror movie is Evil Dead.
